“Queerness is a structuring and educated mode of desiring that allows us to see and feel beyond the quagmire of the present. The here and now is a prison house.”

Ecstatic Utopias

Reorienting audiovisual Evocations of Place Towards A Relational Queer future

We live in a world in crisis but a better world can be on the horizon. Mark Fisher identified the transformative potential of transcendent art to create an imaginary beyond the political context which produced the climate crisis and increasing inequality. Ecstatic Utopias seeks to harness the futurity inherent in queer experience to create transcendent audiovisual art that opens up a glimpse into a potential utopian future. “The here and now is a prison house” and without being able to glimpse the future, we may not be able to see a way out.
